Overview

The Children Ministry of the Baptists' Church of Tanzania is a strategic ministry designed to nurture children spiritually, morally, socially, and intellectually by introducing them to the teachings of Jesus Christ and equipping them to become responsible future leaders in the church and society.

Children represent the future of the church, families, and communities. Through intentional discipleship, biblical education, mentorship, and creative learning approaches, the ministry seeks to reach children at an early age, build strong foundations of faith, develop Christian character, and create an environment where every child can discover their God-given purpose.

The ministry recognizes that children are not only recipients of ministry but also active participants in God's mission. By investing in children today, partners contribute to raising a generation of faithful believers, ethical leaders, missionaries, professionals, and community changemakers.

Objectives

  • Reach children with the Gospel at an early age
  • Build strong foundations of faith and Christian character
  • Create safe, engaging discipleship environments
  • Develop future leaders for church and society

Programmes

Sunday School

Weekly age-appropriate biblical education within Baptist churches.

Sunday School is the foundational teaching ministry for children conducted weekly within Baptist churches. It provides age-appropriate biblical education where children learn God's Word, Christian values, prayer, worship, and practical application of faith in daily life.

Key activities

  • Bible lessons and storytelling
  • Memory verses
  • Christian songs and worship
  • Prayer training
  • Character development lessons
  • Interactive discussions and creative activities
  • Life skills education based on biblical principles

Sunday School teachers are trained to provide safe, engaging, and spiritually transformative learning environments — often the first opportunity for children to encounter the Gospel.

Vacation Bible School (VBS)

Intensive holiday outreach combining biblical learning, creativity and community engagement.

Vacation Bible School is an intensive children's outreach programme conducted during school holidays. It reaches children beyond regular church attendance through a structured period of biblical learning, creativity, and community engagement.

Programme components

  • Bible teaching sessions
  • Worship and creative arts
  • Games and relational activities
  • Outreach to children who do not attend church
  • Follow-up discipleship with local congregations

VBS makes learning enjoyable and memorable while creating pathways into ongoing Sunday School and church family life.

Children's Camps

Immersive environments for deeper discipleship, leadership and friendship.

Children's Camps provide an immersive environment where children spend dedicated time learning God's Word, building friendships, developing leadership skills, and experiencing spiritual transformation.

Camps combine biblical teaching with mentorship, worship, recreation, and servant-leadership opportunities in a safe, supervised setting — especially valuable for children from rural and economically disadvantaged communities.

Bible Clubs

Community-based discipleship reaching children beyond traditional church settings.

Bible Clubs extend children's discipleship into neighbourhoods, schools, and community spaces beyond the traditional Sunday gathering. Clubs create accessible entry points for children and families who may not yet be connected to a local Baptist church.

Through storytelling, Scripture memory, prayer, and relational mentoring, Bible Clubs strengthen spiritual formation while linking children to the wider life of BCT congregations.
